Abstract
1429263 Textile-treating composition DOW CORNING CORP 9 March 1973 [10 March 1972] 11399/73 Heading C3T [Also in Divisions D1-D2] A composition for improving the water repellancy of a fabric of the polybenzimidazole, aromatic polyamide, modified aromatic polyamide or phenolic resin fibrous material without detracting from its inherent flame retardancy, comprises (a) 10 to 30% by weight of a non- volatile liquid hydroxyl - terminated polydimethyl siloxane, (b) 70 to 90% by weight of a methyl hydrogen polysiloxane containing at least 3 silicon bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule, and (c) a curing catalyst for the composition, and thereafter curing the composition on the fabric. Preferably the compound (a) is present in an amount of 20% by weight and has the general formula and the compound (b) in an amount of 80% by weight and has the general formula The preferred catalysts are amine titanates such as triethanolamine titanate, and carboxylic acid salts of organo tin compounds containing at least one carbon-tin bond. The composition may be applied neat to the fabric, or from solution in an organic solvent such as a hydrocarbon, halogenated hydrocarbon or ether, or as an aqueous emulsion. The composition, however formulated, may be sprayed, brushed or padded on to the fabric. Curing is effected by heating, e.g. in an oven at 120‹ C., preferably after drying the treated fabric.
