1429105 Dicarboxylic acids RHONEPOULENC SA 22 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 8210/74 Heading C2C In a process for the preparation of dicarboxylic acids by the double deperoxidation of cyclohexanone peroxide by ferrous ions, the ferric ions present in the reaction mixture are reduced to ferrous ions by hydrogenation of the reaction mixture in the presence of a palladium, platinum or nickel catalyst. The ions are present as carboxylates, e.g. caproate, acetate, or heptanoate in an organic solvent or as sulphate in aqueous medium. Long-chain dicarboxylic acids are prepared by this method, e.g. decane-dodecane and dimethyl dodecandoic acids are mentioned and these are prepared in examples which include the hydrogenation stage with the catalyst, and the filtered catalyst is sensed in the deperoxidation process.
