Abstract
1428879 Mono-azo pigments from barbituric acid and its derivatives CIBA-GEIGY AG 26 July 1974 [27 July 1973] 33089/74 Heading C4P Novel pigments of the formula (wherein R 1 is H, C 1-4 alkyl or optionally substituted aryl; R 2 is R 1 or optionally substituted aralkyl, or -NR 1 R 2 is a 5- or 6- membered heterocycle; R 3 is H, halogen, or C 1-4 alkyl; R 4 and R 5 are H, C 1-4 alkyl or optionally substituted phenyl, the substituents being halogen or C 1-4 alkyl or alkoxy; X is O or NH; Y is O, S or NH; and Z is halogen, C 1-4 alkyl or alkoxy or optionally substituted aryloxy; and -CONR 1 R 2 is m or p to -N = N-) are prepared by coupling the appropriate diazotized aniline carboxamide with the appropriate barbituric acid. The pigments may be after-treated with organic solvents, e.g. by heating to 100-150‹ C., to improve their fastness to light and migration. They may be used for pigmenting high molecular weight organic material, e.g. for the mass colouration of polymers and in paints, lacquers and inks.
