Abstract

1428838 PTFE particles DAIKIN KOGYO CO Ltd 24 July 1973 [29 July 1972] 35209/73 Heading C3P Granular PTFE particles consisting of agglomerates of primary particles of size below 200 microns have more than 90% of granular particles less than 1000 microns, an average particle size in the range 100-500 microns with more than 60% of the granular material having particle sizes of 0À7-1À3 times the average and with a flowability (defined) more than 3 while on moulding giving an article having a surface roughness less than 2À0 are obtained by agglomerating PTFE powder particles having an average particle size below 200 microns by agitating in 150-5000% by wt. of the PTFE of an aqueous medium consisting of more than 130% of water and 20-300% of an organic liquid incompatible with water and having a surface tension less than 35 dynes/cm, at 25‹ C. and subsequently, simultaneously or alternately crushing to reduce overlarge agglomerates. The organic liquid may be a hydrocarbon, halogenated hydrocarbon or ether; in the examples are used carbon tetrachloride, agglomeration being effected with stirring.
