1453696 Dispersions of solids RENTOKIL Ltd 15 Oct 1973 [13 Oct 1972] 47449/72 Heading B1V [Also in Division A5] A process for the production of solid particles comprises mixing a solution containing at least one normally solid material and at least one emulsifier with a liquid in which the solvent system is readily soluble but not flash soluble and the solute is insoluble, the liquid, the solvent system and the emulsifier system being so chosen that on mixing the solution with the liquid a micellular emulsion is formed in which there is a gradual migration of the solvent from the micelles, precipitating the solid material. "Not flash-soluble" is defined as meaning that the liquids are miscible but that there is a short delay after mixing before the solution of one in the other is formed. In examples, a solution of a pesticide (e.g. idofenphos, lindane, bromophos, or propoxur) in a water-miscible solvent (e.g. 2-ethoxy-ethanol) containing a wetting- agent is added to water. An emulsion of micelles is formed which changes to a dispersion of finely-divided solid suitable for application to surfaces. The solution may also contain nucleating agents e.g. finely divided silica and other liquids e.g. kerosene or glycerine.
