1428587 Cigarette making appliance A KASTNER 24 June 1974 [7 Nov 1973] 27896/ 74 Heading A2C A cigarette making machine comprises a casing 2 and a hollow nipple secured to the casing to receive an open end of a cigarette tube, a tobacco compacting chamber 5 formed within the casing and an opening 4 in the casing providing access to the chamber 5, there being a tobacco compacting member 42 movable in the chamber to tobacco receiving (see Figs. 1 and 2) and tobacco compacting positions (see Fig. 3) and toggle link means consisting of a toggle arm 26 and first and second pairs of toggle links 30, 32 for moving the tobacco compacting member, there being a movable plunger 62 and attached injection spoon 66 for moving a wad of tobacco from the chamber through the nipple 68 and injecting the wad into the cigarette tube, an operator arm 14 for moving the plunger and spoon, and a cigarette tube retaining lever pivotable under spring action to retain the cigarette tube on the nipple during injection thereinto of a wad of tobacco there being a handle secured to a cam plate having cam surfaces, rotational movement of the handle resulting in rotation of the cam plate and movement of the operator arm, and a cam stud carried adjacent one end of the toggle arm and in contact with the said cam surfaces wherein rotation of the the cam plate imparts movement to the toggle link means, inner ends of the two pairs of toggle links being pivotally secured to pivot studs 31, 33 on the toggle arm, with outer ends of the first pair of toggle links being pivotally carried by pivot studs 37, 39 on the casing and outer ends of the second pair of toggle links being pivotally secured to pivot studs 38, 40 on the tobacco compacting member, characterised in that the casing of the tobacco compacting member, the toggle arm and toggle links are moulded plastics material, the pivot studs on the casing, the tobacco compacting memiber and the toggle arm also being of moulded plastics material there being circular bearing surfaces being of plastics material moulded integrally with the casing; moulded integrally with the tobacco compacting member for sliding engagement with circular bearing surfaces of plastics material, moulded integrally with the outer ends of the first and second pairs of toggle links, respectively, and circular bearing surfaces of plastics material moulded integrally with and adjacent inner ends of the toggle links of the first pair in sliding engagement with circular bearing surfaces of plastics materal moulded integrally with and adjacent inner ends of the toggle links of the second pair.
