Abstract
1428529 Oxygenating water MESSERSOHMITT-BOLKOW-BLOHM GmbH 25 June 1973 [3 July 1972] 30138/73 Heading B1C Apparatus for oxygenating water in lakes, dams etc, comprises a device such as a compresser for the supply of oxygen (air) by way of a pipe 20 to a housing 13 having a plurality of compartments 171-178 defined by baffles 161-167 which define the flow of water through the housing from an inlet 14 to an outlet 15 the inflow and discharge being in a horizontal direction. The flow is caused by air being supplied from the compressor 22 to distributors 191, 193, 195 and 197 in alternate compartments in the housing causing the oxygenated water to flow each of the respective compartments to the next. Oxygen supplied in excess of that combining with the water collects at the top 23 of the housing where the level of water and hence the air gap is controlled by a float operated valves 251-254 and 241-244 respectively, the excess oxygen (air) being returned to the compressor by way of pipe 26. The air gap 23 in the housing may be controlled to produce buoyancy to counteract the weight of the submerged housing. In an alternative embodiment the housing 13' (Fig. 2) is cylindrical and submerged with its axis horizontal a screened inlet 14', 31 at one end and an outlet 15' at the other. Transverse baffles are provided in spaced relationship along its axis and adjacent the inlet 14', 31. A distributor 35, in the form of a network of pipes with fine apertures therethrough, is provided and to which oxygen (air) is supplied by way of pipe 20'. To establish a horizontal flow through the housing propellors 33 and 34 are provided which rotate in opposite directions. In a further embodiment Fig. 5 (not shown) the housing is of flat cylindrical configuration with the inlet aperture coaxial and extending vertically, the baffles being arranged concentrically and the outlets being radially extending in a horizontal direction. The housing may be movable and may be grouped as in Fig. 3 with the outlets facing outwards to maintain them in equilibrium to prevent their arbitory displacement of the necessity for anchoring.
