1428511 Coated film KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO LTD 28 Feb 1973 [3 March 1972 24 April 1972] 9791/73 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] A plastics film substrate which is a film of a polyester, polyether, polycarbonate, polystyrene or a cellulose ester is provided with an undercoating on at least one surface by treating the film surface with a solution or dispersion containing water-soluble copolymer of Formula: or (in which A is a vinyl monomer, B is hydrogen, or in which M is hydrogen or a cation at least 10% of the total groups M being cations, R is or in which R' is an alkyl, aralkyl or aryl group or aryl group or a heterocyclic ring residue, or R' is a non-metallic atom necessary for forming a heterocyclic ring together with R", and R" is hydrogen or.a lower alkyl group, or R" is a non-metallic atom necessary for forming a heterocyclic ring together with R', R 1 and R 2 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl, X is or R 3 is halogenoalkyl or a halogenoalkyl oxyalkyl, and n, p, q, r, x, y and z are values indicating mole percents of monomers, n being 40-60, p being 0-60, q being 0-50, r being 0-5, x being 0-70, y being 20-80, and z being 0-80 providing that m + p + q + r = 100, and x + y + z = 100, and a solvent or swelling agent for the plastics film. A may be selected from styrene, styrene substituted by nitro, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, chloromethyl or lower alkyl group, vinylmethyl ether, vinylethyl ether, vinylchloroethyl ether, vinyl acetate, vinylchloro acetate, vinyl propionate. acrylic methacrylic acids, itaconic acid, alkyl acrylates and methacrylates having 1-5 carbon atoms optionally substituted by chlorine or a phenyl group, phenyl acrylate and methacrylate, acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride, ethylene, acrylamide optionally substituted by a 1-5 carbon alkyl group, chlorine, or phenyl group, vinyl alcohol, glycidyl acrylate, and acrolein. R may be a straight-chain alkyl, branched alkyl or cycloalkyl, each alkyl having 1-24 carbon atoms, halogenalkyl, halogenalkyloxyalkyl or halogenocycloalkyl having 2-18 carbon atoms and containing 1-37 substituents, optionally substituted phenyl and benzyl groups, aziridine, triazole, piperidine, piperazine, oxazine, morpholine and thiazine. M may be ammonium, sodium, potassium, or lithium ion. Many Examples of specific high molecule compounds are given. The solution or dispersion may be applied by dipping, spraying. The solution or dispersion may be subjected to a Corona discharge, ultra-violet radiation or flame treatment before or after it is applied on the plastics film substrate. The resultant coatings are anti-static and the coated product may be used as a base for a photo-sensitive layer. The adherence of the coated film to the stretched crystalline film of a polyester having aromatic carbonyl groups is mentioned.
