Abstract

1517843 Vesicular materials EASTMAN KODAK CO 16 Jan 1976 [16 Jan 1975] 01741/76 Heading CT2C [Also in Division C3] A vesicular material comprises a radiationdecomposable vesiculating agent dispersed in a water insoluble thermoplastic polymeric binder having a permeability constant for gas of from I X 10<SP>-11</SP> to 1 X 10<SP>-15</SP> wherein the binder contains (-SO 2 N<) groups in the polymer backbone or in a group pendant therefrom. The polymer backbone may be of an addition or condensation polymer and may be a homopolymer or copolymer. A support is preferably treated prior to coating with the polymeric binder with a terpolymer of vinylidene chloride/acrylonitrile/vinyl chloride as a subbing material. The binder may contain plasticizers and/or finely divided pigment having a refractive index about equal to that of the binder. Waxes may be incorporated in the binder to act as prenucleating agents to increase the sensitivity of the vesicular material. Increased sensitivity is also brought about by exposing the material to high humidity before it is exposed.
