Abstract

1428301 Repairing pipes GAZ DE FRANCE 18 Jan 1974 [22 Jan 1973] 02449/74 Heading F2P Repair of a leaking &c. old pipe 1 is effected by inserting a new, flexible pipe 2 of slightly smaller diameter, connecting pressure chambers S, S<SP>1</SP> to each end of the new pipe, and conduits, valves &c. 12, 14, 16, R 1 ... R 8 via ports 0<SP>1</SP> ... 0<SP>1</SP> 3 to feed fluid under pressure, e.g. water, both to the inside of the new pipe and to the annular space between the inner new and outer old pipes, thus allowing the pressure inside and outside the new pipe 2 to be equalized before a lining substance, e.g. a cement based mortar, is introduced between the inner and outer pipes. Introduction of the lining substance forces out the water &c. from between the inner and outer pipes. Following insertion of the pipe 2, the space between the pipes is closed by seal rings 7, 8, and the pressure chambers S, S<SP>1</SP> are secured by connectors 3, 4 to the ends of the inner pipe. Holes O 1 , O<SP>1</SP> 1 , are provided through the old pipe 1 for connection to conduits &c. 16, 14, respectively. Water &c. under pressure is introduced through a conduit 12 and a port O 3 to the pressure chamber S, &c. Depending on which end of the combined pipes is higher, the water in the inner pipe is then either admitted through conduits, valves &c. 11<SP>1</SP>, 14, 10<SP>1</SP> or conduits, valves &c. 11, 16, 10 to the space between the outer and inner pipes 1, 2. Alternatively, water &c. is admitted simultaneously to both the inside of the inner pipe 2 and the pipe around it The pressures between the pipes 1, 2 and inside the pipe 2 are then balanced through the holes &c. 0 1 , 0 2 ; 0<SP>1</SP> 1 , 0<SP>1</SP> 2 , and vent valves R 5 , R 6 are briefly opened. A pressure control valve S 0 is opened, and a lining substance pumped into the space between the inner and outer pipes 1, 2 through a connection 16a. An expansion tank 17 is connected between the holes &c. 0 1 , 0 2 .
