1428226 Aromatic hydroxylamines RHONEPOULENC SA 15 Nov 1973 [16 Nov 1972] 53112/73 Heading C2C Aromatic hydroxylamines having the formula wherein R is alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, phenylalkyl or alkylphenyl, or wherein two adjacent radicals R can, together with the two carbon atoms of the benzene ring to which they are attached, form a benzene ring which is orthocondensed with the benzene ring shown, and n represents zero or an integer from 1 to 5, are prepared by hydrogenating an aromatic nitro derivative of the formula with hydrogen in the presence of palladium and an organic base having a pKB of less than 3À2 at 25‹ C., the ratio by weight of organic base to compound (II) being greater than 0À5 : 1.
