Abstract
1428219 Coating textile tubular jackets ASHIMORI KOGYO KK 11 June 1973 [12 June 1972 11 Jan 1973] 27731/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division D1] A method of forming a coating of rubber or a synthetic resin of uniform thickness on the external surface of a tubular textile jacket made of woven or knitted fibres comprises passing the tube 1 through a bath 3, Fig. 8, of coating liquid 4 containing the rubber or resin, and solidifying the coating liquid coated on the tube, wherein a flexible hollow annular member 9 (Div. F2) is inserted in the tube to inflate it to circular-cross section and maintained at a constant distance from the coating bath 3, the coating being solidified while the tube is inflated by the device. The flexible hollow annular member 9, Figs. 5a, 5b, 8 may be made of natural or synthetic rubber, optionally laminate with a layer of cloth and is inflated by a fluent substance such as a fluid or powder so that the outer portion 10 of tube is tensioned while the inner portion 11 is compressed. The weight of the inflated double tube 9 may be enough to prevent it moving upwards with the tube 1 emerging from the bath after passing round a reverse roller 5 or the annular member may be held by an endless cord or belt 16 wound round annular member 9 and restrained by a holder 17, Figs. 7, 8. The holder comprises a body provided with a roller 18 round which the cord or belt 16 is wound and rollers 23 which co-operate with rollers 24 outside the tube 1 to prevent the holder moving with the tube 1. In another embodiment the tube 1 passes vertically downwards through an aperture in the floor of a coating bath and the holder is placed above the bath, Alternatively the annular member may extend round the reverse roller 5, Fig. 8, with the holder 17 positioned above the level of coating liquid in the bath or the holder may be positioned on the side of the roller 5 remote from the double tube 9 with the cord or belt 16 passing round the roller 5. The preferred materials for the tube are natural and synthetic organic fibres and inorganic fibres, such as cotton, linen, glass regenerated cellulose, polyamides and polyesters. The coating may be in the form of a latex, solution or paste of natural or synthetic rubber, or a synthetic resin e.g. p.v.c. plastisol optionally blended with chloroprene. When the tube is loosely woven or knit a more viscous pre-coating is first applied as solution, latex or paste to fill the interstices of the fibres. The pre-coating may be of the same material as the outer coating, and may be forced into the material of the tube by passing the tube through a rigid annular scraper.
