Abstract

1428210 Extrusion UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 21 May 1974 [8 June 1973] 27347/73 Heading B3P In a process of producing a tube by extrusion a mandrel 2 is used in a blind bored billet, the mandrel having a peripheral cutting edge 7 at its rear end so as to co-operate with the die 3 to sever the tube 8 from the billet discard 1. The extrusion may be effected mechanically or hydrostatically or by a combination thereof. The tube is produced with an increased bore at its rear end which aids removal of the mandrel. The discard acts as a plug in hydrostatic extrusion to prevent escape of fluid.
