Abstract
1428207 Demineralization of water by ion exchange ICI AUSTRALIA Ltd and COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION 30 May 1973 [30 May 1972] 25751/73 Heading C1C An improvement in the known process for demineralizing water containing a mixture of mono and divalent cations by a bed of ion exchange resins containing mixed weak acid and weak base groups consists of the adsorption temperature being at ambient or supply temperature and the temperature of elution being above 95‹ C. and below the temperature at which the resin either decomposes or deforms. The bed is regenerated by eluting it with water or a saline solution at a temperature exceeding that employed during adsorption; the said weak acid having a titration curve at the temperature of the adsorption stage such that some portion of it falls within the area defined by the titration curves of the weak base at the temperatures of the adsorption and elution stages respectively and said weak base having a titration curve with an almost steady pH value over a major portion of the titration curve, which curve is displaced to a more acid position by elevation of the temperature.
