1428129 Azo dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 July 1973 [10 Aug 1972] 37354/72 Heading C4P New monoazo dyes free from SO 3 H groups of formula wherein the naphthalene nucleus may carry one or more other substituents, A represents an optionally substituted aromatic carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical, R represents hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl radical, each of M and L represents an optionally substituted alkylene or arylene radical, X represents -O-, -S-, -OCO-, -NH- or -NR<SP>1</SP>CO-, wherein R<SP>1</SP> represents hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl radical, and Q represents -COOH, or -NR<SP>3</SP>COZCOOH in which R<SP>3</SP> represents hydrogen or alkyl and Z represents a direct link or an optionally substituted alkylene or arylene radical, are prepared by azo coupling. The dyes are used to colour cellulose ester, synthetic polyamide, polyurethane, polyacrylonitrile and, in particular, polyester fibres or blends thereof with cotton or wool in blue shades.
