1427819 Knitting-machines COSTRUZIONI MECCANICHE LONATI DI LONATI FRANCESCO & FIGLI (ETTORE FAUSTO TIBERIO) Snc 21 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 59593/73 Heading D1C [Also in Division F2] In a machine for knitting stockings with toes closed by twisting the drive from the cylinder to the dial can be temporarily interrupted and then reengaged out of phase. The cylinder ring gear 2 meshes with a gear 3 keyed to one end of a first shaft portion 9. The shaft also carries an element 11 having an upstanding part-annular extension 11A with a radial slot 13. An element 12 with extension 12A and slot 14 can be secured to element 11 at the required orientation. A second coaxial shaft portion 10 has keyed to it a member 19 having a spring urged key 20 normally engaging slot 13 to transmit drive to the shaft and gear 7. A plate 15 is normally raised adjacent slot 14 to prevent accidental access of the key thereto. The drive is disengaged by raising key 20 with lever 22, and the member braked with a brake 23. The drive is reengaged when the key drops into slot 14. The in-phase drive is restored before commencing the next stocking.
