Abstract

1427550 Inhibiting a colour-forming reaction FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 14 Dec 1973 [18 Dec 1972] 58177/73 Heading C4A [Also in Division D2] The colour-forming reaction of an electronaccepting (or proton-donating) developer with a colourless electron-donating (or proton-accepting) colour-former is inhibited by contacting the developer with a desensitizer composition which contains at least one amidine of the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are each C 1 -C 8 alkyl or R 1 and R 2 together represent a C 2 -C 11 ring which may be substituted by one or more C 1 -C 4 alkyl groups, and n is an integer from 2 to 6, or a reaction product thereof. The reaction product may be that of an amidine with a phenol, carboxylic acid, carbonic acid or phosphoric acid. The desensitizing composition may also contain a solvent, e.g. a glycol or alcohol, a resin, a pigment, a lubricant, an offset prevention agent, e.g. starch, and other desensitizers. The developer may be a clay mineral, an organic acid, an acid polymer, a metal salt of an aromatic carboxylic acid or a mixture thereof. The colour former may be a triarylmethane, diphenylmethane, xanthene, triazine or spiropyran compound.
