Abstract
1427513 Rolling tubes YORKSHIRE IMPERIAL METALS Ltd 20 March 1973 [3 March 1972] 9983/72 Heading B3M A heat exchanger tube 14 is formed on its inner and/or outer surface with indentations by means of inner rolls 13 located within the tube, and outer rolls 5 supported in a housing 1. The outer rolls are driven by separate motors 7 and serve both to rotate the tube and feed it axially. The axial feed is effected by adjusting the skew angle of supports 4 for the rolls. The inner rolls 13, which are freely rotatable, can also be skewed, and are carried on an arbor 12 fixed to a rod 11. The rolls 5 may be radially adjusted mechanically, pneumatically, or hydraulically. The inner and outer rolls are patterned to produce grooves, finning, knurling or roughening on the tube. In the case of finning, the rolls may be of known disc-like form. The interior or exterior surface of the tube may be left unpatterned by the appropriate use of plain rolls. The inner rolls 13 are supported in recesses 18, Fig. 8, between the two halves 15, 16 of the arbor. Each roll is carried in a mounting 19 which is angularly adjustable in the recess and is clamped in position by a bolt 17 which urges the two halves together.
