Abstract

1427510 Packaging J H GAUNTLETT 6 June 1973 [9 June 1972 5 Dec 1972 7 March 1973] 27054/72 55979/72 and 11141/73 Heading B8C Apparatus for pressing carriers K as claimed in Specification 1,395,723 on to containers l comprises a pressing surface a with apertures d for the container tops to press the top of the carrier downwardly, and at least one other surface b to press at least one of the sides of the carrier inwardly. The surface(s) b may be formed by leaf springs o, or by rollers. Alternatively the pressing surface a may be in two parts movable towards each other and each carrying a surface b. In other embodiments the top surface, or parts thereof, is pivotally mounted along the side edges with the central parts of the surface extending downwardly, and carries the surfaces b such that when the central parts engage the carrier they pivot into a horizontal position and the surfaces b move inwardly. The apparatus may be mounted on an horizontal arm which rotates about a vertical axis y and is lowered to press the carrier on to the containers. As the apparatus moves over a magazine s the top folded carrier blank is caught between claw t of the magazine and the leaf springs and is automatically opened and positioned in the apparatus. In another embodiment (Fig. 17, not shown) the apparatus rotates about an horizontal axis and presses downwardly a carrier already inserted on the container,
