Abstract
1427487 Sleeve connector K C ALLISON 19 April 1974 [31 Aug 1973] 17169/74 Heading H2E To connect in pairs the web-separated insulated conductors of two 2 wire cables (Fig. 1, not shown), springy metal C-section sleeves 26, 28, with co-planar longitudinal flanges 62, 64 on each limb, with flared and lipped 70 wire-entry end 68 and restricted opposite end 66, with inwardly projecting integral four-prong locks 74, are mated with respective deformable sheaths 30, 32, having closed end parts 98, 100, coplanar longitudinal flanges 94, 96 on each limb, and serrations at the open end to engage lip 70 on the sleeves, the sheaths being later held in compartments between separators 112, 114 in heat-shrinking plastics cover 34. The prong nearest the mouth of the sleeve in each lock is extra long and rounded towards the mouth to pass an inserted wire while restricting withdrawal. The two cables are inserted each with one wire in each sleeve, and crimping force is applied to cover 34, the prongs penetrating the cable insulation to contact the conductors while lips 62, 64 and 94, 96 grip the webs of the cables between the conductors. The complete assembly is then warmed to cause the cover to contract. Complete connectors may be mounted spaced side-by-side between double adhesive tapes for supply to a crimping machine (Fig. 11, not shown).
