1427428 Drying fibrous and granular materials B A Z BRUUN 26 March 1973 [7 April 1972] 14470/73 Heading F4G A drying plant for fibrous and granular materials, e.g. grass, straw or grain, comprises a drying drum 40 which is rotatable as by a driven roller 41 about its longitudinal axis with this axis kept horizontal. The material and heated air enter the drum at one end and the material leaves the drum through a mouth disposed in the upper part of the drum in a stationary end cover opposite the one end. The drum 40 has internal vanes 32 extending substantially longitudinally thereof from the inner wall. The mouth is surrounded by a plate 33 which with the mouth extends along a path parallel with the path of movement of the inner ends of the vanes adjacent the mouth and at least one of the vanes carries a blade (Fig. 7, not shown) adapted to wipe across the mouth as the drum rotates. The material is carried to the drum on two conveyers 31, 36, conveyer 31 being bounded by upstanding walls 34. A rotating wiper means 37 is provided adjacent the conveyer 36 for controlling the thickness of material presented to the drum. The material passes into the drum through a funnel 38 and a screw conveyer 39. The air is heated by an oil burner 23, air being provided by an axial blower into an annular chamber 22 formed about the flame from the burner. The inner wall 27 of the annular chamber is provided with one or more slots (Fig. 5, not shown) to allow the blown air to enter the flame chamber tangentially. Blown air also passes the outer end of the inner wall 27 to pass the root of the flame parallel thereto. The air in the flame chamber is thus " whirled " and passes in this state through the drum 40 carrying the material with it. The flame chamber is positioned eccentrically of the drum.
