Abstract

1427176 Winding rotors of electric motors AXIS SpA 15 May 1973 [17 May 1972] 23066/73 Heading B3A Apparatus for winding a rotor 5, Fig. 2, of an electric motor and anchoring the rotor windings in slots (124), Figs. 13-15, 17 (not shown), in segments of a commutator 7 secured to the rotor comprises an automatic rotor winding machine having at least one winding arm 12, Fig. 3, a rotatable structure 73 carrying a slot position ascertaining means 78, wire guide surfaces 102, 104 and wire insertion tools 80, 82, a control device 138 for the rotatable stricture which is responsive to the slot position ascertaining means to rotate the structure and bring it into precise angular positioning with a commutator slot, and means 80A for actuating the tools to insert the wire and anchor the windings. The rotor is clamped in jaws 9 and the winding arm rotates about an axis A-A orthogonal to the axis X-X of a chuck 3, 3A of the machine for performing the winding operation. An elastic tooth 34, Fig. 4, is provided in one of the jaws to engage the edges of slots 5A of the rotor to cause angular movement thereof. A collet unit, including a hollow member 41, 41A mounted within the chuck 3, 3A, provides angular movement of the rotor between winding operations. This is due to connection of member 41 with a yoke 52 which can oscillate between adjustable stops 54, 56, or stops 54, 58A, Fig. 5. Such angular positioning of the rotor provides an approximate preliminary angular positioning of the commutator segment. The rotatable structure 73 carries a wire retaining collet 76, an optical centering probe 78, a blade insertion tool 80 and a wire bending tool 82. Shaped guide elements 102, 104 on the structure form a guide opening for the wires which are inserted using the tools 80, 82 and can be cut along the commutator surface. The probe accommodates a series of optical fibres (114) which are used to direct light towards the commutator. An optical system (118) forms an image of the commutator reflection surface on a reading plane (120) between reading bands (120A), (120B). The bands are monitored by bundles (128A), (128B) of optical fibres adjacent photoelectric transducers (130A), (130B) arranged in a bridge (132) whose output 134, Fig. 11, is connected to a computer 136. The output provides a correction signal to the structure 73 while the bridge (132) is unbalanced. The correction signal operates the control unit 138 which in turn rotates a lead screw 142 via a belt drive 140 and shaft 138A. Movement of a nut 144 causes angular movement of an arm 146 integral with a sleeve 71 of the structure 73. When the centered position of the structure has been attained, the winding arm 12 feeds the end of the wire to the collet 76 and the collet clamping control 76A, wire bending tool control 82A and blade insertion tool control 80A are operated in sequence to force the wire into a commutator slot.
