Abstract
1427068 Electric control of fuel supply to I C engines NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 13 April 1973 [14 April 1972] 18022/73 Heading G3N [Also in Division F1] In an I C engine, the air-fuel ratio of the combustible mixture supplied to the engine by a carbutetter is controlled in dependence upon at least one of the engine speed, the engine temperature, the position of a combustible mixture flow control member and the atmospheric pressure by providing an electrical analogue signal representing the corresponding variable, supplying the or each analogue signal together with a dither signal to a computing circuit 50 to produce an output signal representing an optimum air-to-fuel ratio. and providing an operating command signal in response to the output signal from a circuit 60 which is applied to means for adjusting the air-fuel ratio of the mixture. As shown, the engine is provided with a carburetter 10 in which the air and fuel are mixed in a chamber 18 and supplied to an induction passage 12, via a nozzle 27. The fuel is supplied to chamber 18 from a float chamber 16 via a passage 23 and a flow control member 24 or an auxiliary passage 25 and a flow control member 26 and the air is supplied to chamber 18 via a control jet 21 and a passage 19 and a control jet 22 and a passage 20. The air-fuel ratio is controlled by controlling at least one of the jets 21, 22 and the control members 24, 26. As shown, the jet 21 is controlled by a needle 33 whose position is controlled by a pair of solenoids 34b, 34c which receive the operating command signal from circuit 60. As particularly described, all four variables are operative to control the air-fuel ratio. The engine speed is sensed at 40 to provide a pulse signal which is converted at 44 into an analogue signal n. The engine temperature is sensed by a thermistor 45, the throttle position by a potentiometer 46 and the atmospheric pressure by a transducer 48. The electronic computer, 50, Fig, 10 (not shown) includes a function generator, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), for each input signal and a summing amplifier which receives the output of each function generator and the dither signal the resulting signal being compared in a comparator in the circuit 60 with a reference level to provide a pulse signal for controlling the needle 33.
