Abstract

1426900 Hopper discharging TAKEDA YAKUHIN KOGYO KK 27 Nov 1973 [28 Nov 1972 (2)] 55016/73 Heading B8S [Also in Division B6] Tablets or pills being fed by idler roller 28 to the rotary drum 17 of a printing machine which marks their surfaces (see Division B6) are supplied from hopper 23 through guide 23a to a chamber 24 defined by a bottom plate 24b, side plates 24a, a lid 25 and the peripheral surface of drum 17. A plurality of blow holes 24c in plate 24b are connected through a compressed air source and pipe 27 in order to fluidize the mass of tablets or pills and avoid blockages in the flow from the hopper. The drum 17 is provided with a plurality of recesses forming receptacles 17a which communicate with compressed air or vacuum sources 26, 29 in alternating sequences so that first the tablets or pills are drawn into the receptacles 17a; second their orientation is corrected by blowing air underneath through passages 17b; thirdly, vacuum is applied to settle the tablets or pills in the bottom of the receptacle for printing by unit 30; and fourthly, they are blown out, optionally to a second rotary drum 18 so that the sequence is repeated for printing with unit 30<SP>1</SP> on the opposite face of the articles.
