Abstract

1426389 Incinerators EBARA INFILCO KK 7 May 1973 21660/73 Heading F4B Sewage sludge or other waste slurries are dried, the dried powdery sludge is fed to an incinerator to be burned in suspension, and the solid residues are withdrawn as molten slag. Filter cake is dried in a drier 2 heated by the exhaust gases from incinerator 6 or by auxiliary fuel, pulverized and fed to a storage bin 3. The dried sludge, together with calcium or sodium salts added at 17 if necessary to reduce the melting point of the ash, is pneumatically delivered to the incinerator 6, which has a preheating or auxiliary burner 8. Slag flows with the exhaust gases through a passage 9, the slag falling to a granulating tank 11 at a bend in the passage 9. A duct 14, with a port 13 to allow the oxygen content to be measured, leads the gases to the drier. The oxygen content of the waste gases is kept low so as to obtain a high enough incinerator temperature to fuse the ash. An agitator 12 may be necessary in the slag granulation tank. The drier may be of the indirect type (Fig. 2), and may be heated by steam.
