Abstract

1426327 Catalytic reactor IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD 9 Feb 1973 [28 Feb 1972] 9034/72 Heading B1F In a catalytic reactor, fresh gas from 44 to be catalytically synthesised mixes with recycled uncondensed product gas from 42, and passes down heat exchanger 26 for heat exchange with fresh product gas, passes up central tube 18 and down through catalyst 16, up through heat exchanger 26, and down cooling tubes 36, which are e.g. water cooled to condense the product which leaves via 46, and separated uncondensed product gas is recycled via 40 and circulator 43 to mix with fresh synthesis gas. Product gas is also purged at 48. Tubes 22 feed lateral quench tubes 20, the synthesis gas passing into and out of tubes 20 to mix with the quench gas e.g. as described in 1, 105, 614. The synthesised gas may be ammonia or methanol.
