Abstract

1426176 Road vehicle rear window heating LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 15 Feb 1973 [7 April 1972] 16055/72 Heading H2H A road vehicle rear window heating system comprises capacitor means, the discharge of which determines the period during which the window heater is energized. When an ignition switch 13 is closed a rear window heater 33 is energized by closure of contacts 32 when a relay coil 29 is energized, a lamp 34 indicating energization of the heater. A Schmitt trigger circuit is normally such that transistor 19 is off and transistor 23 on, therefore transistor 28 is off and the relay coil 29 is de-energized. Momentary closure of a manually operable switch 16 causes a capacitor 17 to become charged thereby changing the states of the transistors 19, 23, 28. Relay coil 29 is now energized to close contacts 32 to energize the window heater 33. The capacitor now begins to discharge by way of variable resistor 18, resistor 26 and the baseemitter junction of transistor 19 and when the capacitor is discharged to a predetermined level in, say 5 minutes, the transistors 19, 23, 28 revert to the normal states, the relay coil 29, and hence the window heater 33, are deenergized. A diode 14 is provided for protection of the transistors against reverse polarity transients.
