Abstract

To prepare purified human serum haptoglobin, aqueous solutions of alpha - and beta -globulin fractions from human blood plasma are subjected to ammonium sulphate fractionation. The precipitates which separate out at ammonium sulphate concentrations of 30 to 40 % are collected and dissolved in water and contacted with an anion exchanger, whereupon the haptoglobin is chemically bound thereto. To obtain the pure haptoglobin, it is eluted from the ion exchanger. The haptoglobin is suitable for preventing or treating haemolytic kidney disorders.
