Abstract

1425870 ABA block copolymerization BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 20 June 1973 [21 June 1972] 29227/73 Heading C3P Block copolymers of the formula where each A is a hydrophilic polymer of an alkylene oxide and B is a hydrophobic polymer of a conjugated diene or copolymer thereof, e g. with an alkenylaromatic hydrocarbon, which copolymer block may itself have a block structure, are obtained by (a) polymerizing a diene, e.g. butadiene or isoprene, optionally with the alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g. styrene, alpha-methylstyrene or vinyl toluene, in the presence of a difunctionally active organosodium or potassium compound, e.g. alphamethyl styrene dipotassium or naphthalene potassium, and (b) polymerizing the A-forming monomer, e.g. ethylene oxide on the lining difunctional polymer. The liding ends may be terminated, e.g. with acetic acid, and the polymer recovered by flocculation, e.g. in water, or by solvent evaporation.
