Abstract

1425746 Boxes for fragile articles H L LURAY 4 April 1973 16130/73 Heading B8P Fragile articles are suspended in a non-elastic sleeve 22 which may be of P.V.C. and has at least its opposite ends attached to L-shaped support members 24 which pivot about an edge on a surrounding container 30 to hold the sleeve taut and clear of the container walls. The container may be of plastics, metal, or cardboard and a lid if fitted may have an opening 50, or the container may be of a transparent plastic. The support members may be of aluminium or a plastic. If the container has a telescopically fitting lid 28 its lower edge 48 engages a flange 64 on the support member to cause it to pivot and tighten the sleeve. The sleeve is secured to each support member by adhesive or by heat sealing through holes in the support member (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown). In another form the support member has a detent 76 that engages a pocket 78 in the container bottom, with this construction the lid may or may not be used and if the container is of cardboard and a strip of pressure sensitive tape secures the support member to the container. The support member may be located in a cut-out 40 in the container end wall or the cut-out may be omitted and the support member extended to engage the longer sides of the container and so stiffen the container. In a further form (Fig. 10, not shown) the sleeve is secured to a resilient U-shaped frame after which the frame and sleeve are placed in the container.
