Abstract

1425456 Switching circuits with hysteresis CLARKE CHAPMAN Ltd 13 Sept 1973 [23 Sept 1972] 44101/72 Heading H3T [Also in Division G1] The intensity of radiation, e.g. from a flame is monitored by a semi-conductor detector whose circuit includes a trigger circuit having an adjustable hysteresis feedback loop. As shown, a phototransistor Tr1 feeds amplifier A1 and trigger circuit formed of transistors Tr2, Tr3. An increase in detected radiation causes the current via R6 to make point B positive and switch on Tr2. This causes Tr3 to switch off, resulting in energization of the relay RL1 and a feedback voltage to be applied via set hysteresis potentiometer VR3, such that for switch off of the relay, the amplifier A1 output must fall somewhat below the switch on level for the trigger. R7 provides fixed hysteresis, VR2 sets the switch on lead, VR1 sets the gain for amplifier A1. Amplifier feedback circuit may be modified Fig. 2 (not shown) to provide a variable time delay, so that the relay is held energized in the presence of flame flicker. The effects of longer term (25-30 seconds) fluctuations of intensity may be obviated by providing a variable delay in the relay circuit, Fig. 3 (not shown). The operation of the relay may control fuel valve closure or an alarm. The relay may be substituted by thyristors.
