Abstract

142,517. Wilson, R. P. Sept. 17, 1917. Optical systems; optical-projection apparatus- -In optical-projection apparatus comprising two lenses or lens parts for simultaneously projecting two images upon a screen, and constituting a gauge in which comparison is made between the images of the edges of the object to be gauged and a test object, means are provided for positioning the lenses or lens parts laterally so that their optical centres can be adjusted to a separation equal to the distance between the object to be gauged and the test object, and the images are approximated by means independent of the lenses. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus comprises a lamp a and condenser b for producing a parallel beam, lenses or lens parts g, and a screen o. Prisms c, rotatable by worm and sector gear d or other means, are provided for deflecting the beam upwards or downwards, and prisms h, rotatable about vertical axes by screw gear k<1> or worm and sector gear k<2>, and also rotatable, if desired, about horizontal axes, are provided for bring- ing the images into proximity. When using the apparatus the test object, and object to be gauged, or a single object c of which opposite sides are to be compared, is placed in position, and the lens parts g are separated by micrometer screws f or the like until the readings of the micrometers &c. show that the distance between the lens centres s equal to the distance between the edges to be compared. The prisms h may be replaced by mirrors, and the lens parts g<1>, g<2> may be arranged to overlap as shown in Fig. 5.
