Abstract

1425028 Printing inks METAL BOX Ltd 21 March 1973 [23 May 1972] 24226/72 Heading C4A [Also in Division B6] A security paper, e.g. a cheque or draft, is secured against fraudulent alteration of information written thereon in washable, i.e. solvent non-soluble ink and in solvent soluble ball-point pen ink by having printed thereon a background image in two printing inks of contrasting colours, the first of these inks changing colour on contact with chemicals capable of removing the washable ink and the second changing colour on contact with solvents for ball-point ink. The first ink may comprise an organic dye stuff ground into a glycerine/dextrin vehicle and the second, a solvent soluble organic dye in a resin/glycol vehicle. The background may be a linear or lettering design. There may also be chemical and solvent sensitive ingredients incorporated into the security paper. The second ink may comprise a dye dispersed in a mixture of a resin, e.g. shellac, zein, phenolic, furmaric or maleic resin, and glycol and an alkanolamine.
