Abstract

1425026 Capacitors BICC Ltd 18 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 23762/72 Heading H1M A capacitor comprises strips of dielectric material and two electrodes wound together into a roll and a plurality of connection tabs arranged in groups, each group comprising two tabs, e.g. 1, 2 that contact the same electrode at positions spaced by one turn of the winding, and one tab, e.g. 3, that contacts the other electrode at a location along the length of the winding between the first two tabs. Preferably each electrode is contacted by an equal number of tabs, e.g. the succeeding group of tabs can comprise tabs 4, 5 contacting the electrode which was only contacted by tab 3, and tab 6 contacting the electrode which was contacted by tabs 1, 2. The tabs of a group preferably lie diametrically opposite each other in a cylindrical roll, or, in the case of a flattened roll, they are aligned as shown, though not necessarily centrally. The arrangement of tabs permits rapid discharge of the capacitor, as well as aiding series and/or parallel connection of such capacitors in banks (Figs 4 to 6, not shown).
