Abstract

1424954 Tempering glass sheets SAINTGOBAlN INDUSTRIES 1 March 1974 [2 March 1973] 9327/74 Heading C1M Apparatus for heat treating glass sheets 1 comprises two blowing chests 2, 3 each having a plurality of tubular nozzles 8, 9 extending from a wall 6, 7 thereof to direct jets of a gas towards opposite surfaces of the sheet 1 between the chests, and a partition 12, 13 provided between the nozzle orifices and the wall of each chest overlapping at least a part of the periphery of the sheet 1 throughout translational or rotational oscillation of the chests 2, 3 relative to the sheet 1 in a direction parallel to the sheet surface. Particularly for top clamped sheets, the partitions cover the top edge. They may, however, cover opposed edges or be in the form of frames to cover all the edges. The partitions are preferably closer to the nozzle orifices than to the walls of the chests. For curved sheets, the partitions are shaped to correspond.
