Abstract

1424851 Winding webs WALDMANN-VERPACKUNG KG 7 March 1973 [8 March 1972] 11204/73 Heading B8R A web winding apparatus in which a plastics distensible web 1, Fig. 2, is drawn off a web roll 7 is provided with at least three freely rotatable spindles 3 supporting a core 2 on which is wound the web 1, the core 2 being driven at constant speed by a pair of diametrically opposite contact rollers 4, 5. Winding apparatus includes an indexable turret 6 provided along its-- periphery with freely rotatable spindles 3 driven by the contact rollers 4, 5 which are in turn driven by constant speed drive belts 29, 33. The rollers 4, 5 are mounted on pivotally supported, power actuated supports. When a roll is fully wound the turret 6 is indexed for a core change. Wound roll is indexed to a position 71, Fig. 4, at which web tension is maintained by a belt 72 driven at a peripheral speed corresponding to that of contact rollers 4, 5 and the new core at position 74 is accelerated by a pivotally mounted drive roller 73 to the speed of winding. A knife blade 79, Fig. 5, mounted on a pivotal support 78 is actuated to sever the web 1. Trailing end 83 is attached to the web roll by a synchronously driven pivotally mounted roller (93, Fig. 6) acting on a roller 60, Fig. 7b. The roller may be a printing or labelling device. The leading end is tucked in about the new core by a pair of pull-in rollers 85, 86 co-operating with the contact roller 4 and the leading end emerging from the nip formed by the core 2 and the roller 86 may be blown into contact with the core and web 1, by air blast issuing from nozzles 87 associated with the pivotal support of roller 86. Completed web roll is removed from the winding spindle by a stripper finger 96, Fig. 7b, which is mounted for a sliding movement by a drive member 105, on a pivotal support 98. New web core is mounted in like manner by a slidable finger (119, Fig. 9a) and the core is clamped to the spindle 3 by a locking member 107, which is released by a pusher 102 acting on a slide bolt 106. Tension of web 1, which is wound at constant speed on the spindle 3, is controlled by a dancer roller 12, Fig. 5, acting indirectly on a shaft 38, Fig. 2 of a drive unit 20 which controls the drive of the web roll 7 driven by belts 13. During controlling of tension the speed of the drive unit 19 driving the contact rollers 4, 5, and rollers (93, Fig. 6) as well as roller 73, Fig. 4, at constant speed is locked. The speed of drive unit 19 is preselected at the beginning of the winding operation by a hand wheel (58, Fig. 3b).
