Abstract

1424677 Drying sheet articles E T MARLER Ltd 22 Aug 1973 [4 Sept 1972] 40935/72 Heading F4G Apparatus for the treatment of sheet articles or material with a gas or a vapour medium comprises a plenum chamber 7 with a lower perforate wall 8 to which gas under pressure is fed, a gas-permeable belt conveyer being mounted below the wall 8 for carrying the sheet articles or material and the distance between the conveyer and wall being adjustable. As shown, the conveyer comprises an endless belt 1 driven by rollers 2, 3 held in a frame 4. The frame sides 5 are supported on four pegs 15 screwed into brackets 16 which are bolted on to the apparatus base 10 and which have apertures 17 into which the pegs may be screwed to adjust the distance between the conveyer 1 and wall 8. A fan 11 driven by an electric motor 11 supplies air through ducting 13 and outlet aperture 14 to the plenum chamber inlet 9. In alternative constructions the height adjustment for the conveyer may be continuously variable by means of screwjacks or hydraulic piston-cylinder devices. Alternatively, lever arms and pivotal links may be employed. Operation may be manual or machine-assisted, for example by means of electric motors or fluid compressors. The apparatus may be used for drying, humidifying, and heating and cooling materials such as plastics films and foils, paper, foam plastics sheets, textile materials and flexible laminated materials.
