Abstract
1424625 Filtration and vaporisation apparatus AMERICAN EQUIPMENT CO 1 June 1973 26292/73 Addition to 1337684 Headings BIB and BID Apparatus for removing solid and liquid contaminants from a liquid, e.g. lubricating oil, of the type described in U.K. Specification 1337684 is modified by a lid 206 having a downwardly projecting heat radiating portion 220 having a flat lower face 222 disposed closely above the upper surfaces of the bosses 216 on plate 202, the radiating portion of the lid defining a deep interior well 224 having a bottom extending parallel to the face 222 and containing an electric heating element 240 at its bottom and the lid further including a plurality of heating fins 250 projecting downwardly from the face 222 into close proximity to the side walls of the bosses for heating thin films of liquid flowing down these side walls. In use, liquid to the treated enters cylindrical vessel 200 at bottom inlet 254, is filtered by the fibrous filtering material contained therein and passes upwardly through the passages 210 and restrictions 212. Volatile impurities are vaporised as the liquid flows down the heated inclined sides of the bosses 216 surrounding the upper end of the passages. The vaporised impurities are discharged through outlet 248 whilst purified liquid drains off at 256. The lid and plate 202 are interconnected by a bolt 230 and the plate 202 is set in the correct position by the correlation of indexing lugs 203 on the vessel and corresponding lugs on the plate surface.
