Abstract

1424361 Vehicle article conveyers; walking beam and roller conveyers D E LUTZ 22 Nov 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 53909/72 Headings B8E and B8A A conveyer system for moving articles in a rectangular path as on a vehicle load platform comprises two parallel longitudinal walking beam conveyers 16, 18 joined at their ends by transverse roller conveyers 28, 30. Each conveyer 16, 18 comprises stationary beams 36 secured by legs 34 to the floor 20, a pair of intermediate beams 38 and movable beams 56 actuated by rams 64, 66 which cause rollers 46 to run up ramps 32 on the legs 34 to raise the movable beams 56 above the edge 37 of the intermediate beams by contact of rollers 52 on which the beams 56 run when moved by a ram 70 over one article length. In alternative arrangements the ramps may be attached to the intermediate beams to run over rollers fixed to the legs 34 or they may be attached to the movable beams to be contacted by rollers on the intermediate beams which are also provided with other rollers running on the fixed beams so that the intermediate beams are also moved for article movement. At the ends of the conveyers 16, 18 the articles are moved on to rollers 72, Fig. 3 from which they are moved transversely to corresponding rollers at the end of the other conveyer by rollers 74 driven by a motor 76 through chain drives 84. When applied to a vehicle load platform, Fig. 1, standard containers 22 are used and if a single space is left the containers can be stepped round a rectangular path in either direction under the control of limit switches 300-314 to bring a desired container to the end of the vehicle for loading or unloading. A hydraulic control system for such movement is described.
