Abstract
1424167 Thermionic cathode constructions HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO 22 March 1974 [9 April 1973] 12979/74 Heading H1D To reduce heat losses in a cathode for a travelling wave tube a heat reflecting shield 40 is wound coaxially round thermionic cathode 10, the shield comprising a thin metal foil of low thermal conductivity, low emissivity; with a polished heat reflecting surface and projections 45 which extend from the foil surface to separate adjacent windings. The cathode includes a Mo emitter 11, a heater 20 and two heat shields 40, 50 around the cathode and heater respectively. The foil is of Re, Nb, Ta, Mo or W and the shields comprise about 40 turns. The projections are either pressed in the foil or beads welded to the foil.
