Abstract

1424078 Immersing apparatus CHR BJELLAND & CO AS 4 July 1973 31830/73 Heading B1C In an immersing apparatus for pickling foodstuffs such as brisling and herring, provided so that, for uniform salting, foodstuffs size-sorted prior to entering the apparatus remain so sorted whilst in the apparatus, an upwardly open semi-cylindrical brine container closely accommodates a horizontal axis wheel 5 having circumferentially disposed pockets formed between inclined plates 7 and wheel flanges (8), the arrangement being such that with the wheel rotated slowly, e.g. at 0.2 r.p.m. in the direction of the arrow 9, sorted foodstuffs are poured into the pockets from above and are thereby passed through brine in the container. The inclination of the plates 7 ensures emptying of each pocket as it passes an outlet spout 10 fast with the container, and reduces air intake during immersion. Continuous brine renewal may be effected from a common reservoir serving several apparatuses.
