1424070 Flash devices REGULA-WERKKING KG 25 April 1973 [28 April 1972 12 Oct 1972 (2) 23 Oct 1972] 19697/73 Heading G2X A camera designed for use with impact-ignited flash-cubes can be adapted so that it may also be used with an electronic flash unit. As shown, the camera 1 has retaining noses 7 which engage and hold the flash cube. When the shutter is operated, a striker pin 8 is driven to engage and release a preloaded impact device in the flash-bulb which initiates the ignition thereof. In order to use the camera with an electronic flash unit instead, the unit 2 is attached to the camera, either by a shoe or an adhesive connecting device. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the flash unit has a projection 2', 2" which enters the flash-cube socket 11 and engages with the retaining noses 7. Since an electronic flash reaches maximum intensity more quickly than an impact-ignited flash, it is necessary to introduce a delay when electronic flash is used. As the striker pin 8 enters the flash unit 2 through an aperture 9, it engages and closes a switch 6 which is synchronized with the camera shutter. This switch forms part of a delay circuit Fig. 6 (not shown) including an RC network, which fires the flash after a predetermined delay period. Various alternative means are shown of mounting the flash unit on the camera.
