Abstract

1423563 Metal vapour lamps PATENTTREUHAND-GES FUR ELEKTRISCHE GLUHLAMPEN mbH 1 March 1973 [1 March 1972 (3)] 10027/73 Heading H1D A high pressure metal vapour discharge lamp includes a sealed hollow lead 10 extending from the envelope 1 communicating with the lamp interior through an aperture 9 and containing the metal or an alloy thereof. During the life of the lamp the metal is released thereby preventing a reduction in the metal concentration and any corresponding increase in operating voltage. A Xe filled Na lamp with an Al 2 O 3 envelope is sealed by a Vb tube 10, an Al 2 O 3 ring 2 and a Nb cap 5 jointed by sintering or glass or metal solder 6. Grooves 19 in the ring 2 ensure a bubble free solder seal; the tapered end 20 of the ring prevents unwanted arcing. The tube contains Na or Na amalgam in interstices provided by a filament coil 16, W wool, sintered porous W or granular material. The lamp is evacuated and filled through a hole 12 in the top of tube 10 subsequently sealed by Ti and Mo plates 13, 14. A similar tube 3<SP>1</SP> is sealed by Ti and Nb discs 17. Members 18 support rings 2 before sealing.
