Abstract

1423225 Pneumatic brake systems SAABSCANIA AB 21 Feb 1973 [25 Feb 1972] 8520/73 Heading F2F A vehicle pneumatic brake system includes a driver operated brake valve 7 operable to supply compressed air from a container 3 to brake actuators 10, 12 via lines 8, 9 and double check valves 15, 16 respectively, and further comprises a line 17 extending from the pressure container 3 which line 17 incorporates a solenoid valve 19 actuable by the driver to control the flow through line 17 and hence the operation of actuators 10, 12 to give partial braking. The system is stated to be applicable to vehicles provided with automatic gear-boxes. As shown container 3 is supplied with compressed air by a compressor 1 via a line 2, and a pressure regulator 4 and the brake valve 7 are arranged in a parallel connection 5, 6. Actuators 10 brake the front wheels and actuators 12 brake the rear wheels, there being a quick-blow valve 11 in line 9. The line 17 which incorporates a pressure control valve 18, and a pressure reducing valve 20 as well as valve 19 leads to a relay valve 14 which in response to fluid flow through line 17 as controlled by solenoid valve 19 opens a branch line connection 13, 13a, 13b from the container 3 to double check valves 15, 16 and actuators 10, 12. The solenoid valve 19 is incorporated in a circuit 21 including a switch 22 closed when a cross-country gear is engaged and a switch 23 closed by a foot plate; closing of these switches 22, 23 causes energization of solenoid valve 19 and partial braking at a pressure reduced in branch lines 13a, 13b. The circuit 21 may incorporate an additional switch closed when the throttle is released.
