Abstract

1422856 Heat-stabilized polyesters GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 12 Sept 1973 [19 Oct 1972] 42774/73 Heading C3R A heat-stabilized composition comprises a polyester and tris-(pentaerythritol)tetraphosphite of the formula The phosphite is preferably present in an amount of from 0À05 to 5À0 parts by weight per 100 parts of polyester. The composition may also contain 1 to 80 parts by weight per 100 parts of polyester and filler of a reinforcing filler, e.g. fibres, whiskers, platelets or powders of bronze, Al, Fe, Ni, ceramics, carbon, silicates, asbestos, quartz, glass, titanium dioxide and titanates. The composition may also contain hindered phenol antioxidants, carbon black, wood flour, cloth fibres and clay. The polyesters specified in the examples are poly-(1,4-butylene terephthalate, polyethylene terephthalate, 99/1 1,4 - butylene terephthalate/adipate copolyester, 98/2 1,4 - butylene/glycerol terephthalate copolyester and 98/2 1,4-butylene terephthalate/ isophthalate copolyester, and glass fibres may be used as the reinforcing filler.
