1422661 Taximeters MARTIN TAXIMETERS (AUST) PTY Ltd 2 May 1973 [10 May 1972] 20884/73 Heading G4T In a taximeter, a rotatable element 68, Fig. 1, is driven via a clutch 62 and gearing 64 by time-dependent gearing 58 alone, when the taxi is either stationary or moving at less than a predetermined speed, and by taxi-speed-dependent gearing 50 alone, when the taxi is moving at more than the predetermined speed. An electrical pulse train representative of the rotational speed of element 68 is fed to counters and a fare display, Fig. 2. In the embodiment, the element 68 includes a five-lobed cam 68a, which through a spring steel cam follower 70 and a spring steel arm 72 operates a microswitch 78, incorporated in a pulse generating and shaping circuit. The train of shaped pulses are multiplied at 14 by a factor of one, two, three, four or five, according to which of five interchangeable circuits 32 has been plugged-in. Pulses from multiplier 14 step the lowest order 17 of a counter 17, 18, 19, 21, the other orders of which are stepped by tens-transfer pulses from the next lowest order. Decoded outputs from the counter and representing fare are displayed at 27-31. When the taximeter is switched at the beginning of each hiring, a circuit 15 produces a first pulse, to reset the two highest orders 21, 19, of the counter, and a second pulse, to enter the minimum fare (determined by circuit 32) into the two lower counter orders 18, 17.
