Abstract

1422198 Engraving by electron beams; making printing cylinders DR ING RUDOLF HELL GmbH 15 Feb 1973 [15 Feb 1972] 7549/73 Headings B3V and B3A [Also in Division H1] An annular body 15 is mounted adjacent one end 14 of a printing cylinder 6 which is to be engraved by an electron beam engraving apparatus 11 so as to extend the surface of the printing cylinder 6 whereby a vacuum chamber of the apparatus 11 can pass beyond the printing cylinder surface without loss of vacuum. In one embodiment, a member 15 is screwed to each end of a rotatably mounted printing cylinder 6, over the surface of which the electron beam apparatus 11 is movable. In another embodiment, the member 15 is provided with corrugations (16) (Fig. 2, not shown) which engage corresponding corrugations (17) in the printing cylinder 6. One or more air extraction conduits (18) are connected to a vacuum pump.
