Abstract

1421913 Degradable polymer compositions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 June 1973 [6 July 1972] 31689/72 Heading C3P Degradable compositions comprise (1) an olefin polymer, (2) as prodegradant 0À01 to 5 weight per cent of an aromatic or saturated aliphatic, substituted or unsubstituted, carboxylic acid having 12 to 22 carbon atoms in the molecule and (3) 0À5 to 5 weight per cent of high density polyethylene. The polymer may be a polymer of ethylene, propylene, butene-1, 4-methylpentene-1 or styrene, or a copolymer thereof with vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, acrylic or methacrylic acids or esters; or an ionomer resin. Preferred polymers are low density polyethylenes. The compositions may also comprise conventional stabilizers, colorants and antistatic, antiblocking and slip agents, and may be made into containers, wrapping materials and string. Examples describe compositions of low density polyethylene, with 1 per cent of high density polyethylene together with stearic acid and, for comparison, oleic acid.
