Abstract
1421819 Brake-lining materials THIOKOL CORP 4 May 1973 [5 May 1972] 21419/73 Heading C3R A brake lining material for an automotive brake comprises asbestos, a synthetic thermosetting resin and an unloaded molecular sieve. The molecular sieve is preferably present in an amount of up to 15% wt. Suitable molecular sieves are synthetic crystalline metal aluminosilicates containing alkali metal or alkaline earth metal cations, which after dehydration have a total void volume of 25-35%, and may have effective pore diameters of 3-10 angstoms. The thermosetting resin is suitably a phenolic resin, e.g. phenol-formaldehyde resin. In the example a brake lining is prepared from asbestos, barium sulphate, a phenolic resin and a molecular sieve having an effective pore diameter of 3 angstroms.
