1421759 Inserting wound coils into stators BALZER & DROLL KG 22 Dec 1972 [25 Feb 1972] 59402/72 Heading B3A Apparatus for inserting wound coils into dynamo-electric machine stators comprises a frame 10 a plurality of parallel guide fingers 16 extending from the frame and arranged in a circle having a first axis and on certain of which are hung wound coils, means for positioning a stator 26 concentric with the circle of guide fingers and stripper means for urging the wound coils into the stator grooves, the stator positioning means comprising support means 28 for holding the stator in an operative position on the fingers 16 for receiving the wound coils and in a withdrawn position away from the guide fingers, the support means being movable between the operative and withdrawn positions while holding the stator. The coils are wound and placed on the fingers 16 by known apparatus, and when they are located on the fingers an alignment member 22 is placed inside the circle of fingers to steady them during the insertion process. The stator is then placed on the fingers and the support means 28 is pivoted about a shaft 36 and about shafts 74 so that a mounting ring 58 engages an end face of the stator. Rods 50 are rotated so that locking plates 52 engage the other stator and face, thereby securing the stator on the guide fingers. A power cylinder 80 is actuated to pull the stator along the guide fingers and a stationary stripper (19), Fig. 1A (not shown) inserts the wound coils into the stator slots. A projection (84) on the stripper engages in a recess (86) in the member 22 to push the member clear of the mounting ring 58 and on to a bolt 42 which is provided with retaining means for the member. An arm 30 is rotated by a shaft 34 to swing the member 22 clear of the guide fingers, Fig. 5 (not shown), and the cylinder 80 is actuated to pull the stator with the inserted coils off of the fingers. The stator is then pivoted into alignment with a mandrel (68), Fig. 4 (not shown), with the ring 58 vertical and the mounting ring 58 is pivoted to lie horizontal. The locking plates 52 are withdrawn and the stator drops on to the mandrel (68) for removal from the apparatus.
